Privacy Policy

Recess AI is an AI-powered tutoring platform serving K–12 students, their teachers, and their parents. We are operated by Recess AI (part of the Lunchbox EdTech family). Our platform uses artificial intelligence to provide personalized academic support.

We collect only what we need to provide the tutoring service:

• Account information: Name, email address, and role (student, teacher, or parent).
• Grade level: Collected at signup to personalize content difficulty. Optional.
• IEP goals: If you choose to share Individualized Education Program goals, we store them to tailor tutoring responses. This is entirely optional and voluntary.
• Chat transcripts: Conversations with the AI tutor are saved so you can review past sessions and so the AI can maintain context within your session.
• Practice answers and study notes: Work you submit during practice sessions and any notes you save.
• Usage data: Pages visited, features used, and time spent — used to improve the product. No ad tracking.

Your data is used for one purpose: making Recess AI work better for you.

• Delivering personalized AI tutoring responses tailored to your grade level and goals
• Saving your progress so you can pick up where you left off
• Allowing teachers and parents (where linked) to monitor student progress
• Improving the platform based on aggregate, anonymized usage patterns
• Communicating important account updates or safety notices

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. Ever.

We work with a small number of trusted vendors who process data on our behalf:

• SupabaseDatabase and authentication

  All account data and session content is stored in Supabase, a secure cloud database provider. Supabase processes data under a Data Processing Agreement with industry-standard security controls.

• Anthropic (Claude AI)AI tutoring responses

  When you send a message to the AI tutor, your message is transmitted to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response. Anthropic processes this data solely to produce the tutoring response — they do not use API data to train their models by default. See Anthropic's privacy policy for full details.

We do not share your information with any other third parties except when required by law.

We use industry-standard security practices to protect your data: encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit, and encrypted storage at rest via Supabase. Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel only.

No system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at hello@recess.xyz.

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

You have the right to:

• Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information in your account
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Withdraw consent for optional data (e.g., IEP goals) at any time

To make any of these requests, email hello@recess.xyz with the subject line "Data Request". We will respond within 30 days.

We may update this privacy policy as the platform evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a notice in the app. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
